Just got through fixing a cabinet that needed new hinges in my kitchen. They were kind of oddball hinges but I went to the Home Depot store and they had zillions of types of hinges, including a draw full of the ones I needed. This is good a thing. Home Depot is great for both selection and price.

However, I do miss the little hardware stores with really knowledgeable people that have been essentially put out of business by the "mega home stores". The one in my town folded a few years ago, so Home Depot is my only close option. The reason I mention this is while I was looking at hinges, I overheard one of the store employees trying to help someone with door hardware. He was pleasant and trying hard but really did not seem to know much more about the merchandise than the people he was helping. In addition, you could see that there were not enough employees on the floor and people who needed assistance looked looked lost and alone. I was OK because I could find what I needed myself, but if you need real help and expertise, the old hardware stores cannot be beat.
