Snow brings back memories of 78
Dec. 5th, 2003 06:04 pmJust saw the news on TV; sounds like a big snow storm for the weekend. Although what is predicted is not nearly as bad, whenever I hear of big snow I remember the blizzard of 78. It was wild: there were cars abandoned on 128 (a.k.a., 95) for weeks. People gave up on traffic, abandoned their cars, and walked home for miles.
I was a senior in high school, and we missed like two weeks of school. The one bright side was that as seniors we did not have to make up the time and graduated on schedule, while the poor kids in the other grades got to go another 2 weeks at the end of the year. There was also a driving ban for about a week, which I do not think I have seen since. Had a stock boy job in a department store, and I remember shoveling snow to clear the store for a long time and not making a dent. Our car was completely buried, you could not even see the radio antenna.
I remember it well, its hard to believe it was 25 years ago.
