Did not use high technology today....
Mar. 25th, 2004 10:07 pmWhile I may have stopped being a luddite with taxes (did them electronically for the first time this year, as I wrote previously), I still have one more hurdle: I made hotel reservations today for a business trip and for some reason could not bring myself to use the on-line registration form on the Hotel's site.
This is silly, but I just felt better calling the hotel. For someone who has worked in high tech for 20+ years, I still felt better making a room reservation by talking to a person. For other e-commerce type stuff, I have been an "early adopter"; I bought from Amazon and the now defunct CD-NOW very early in the game. Perhaps the fact that a hotel screwup has greater consequences (get there and have no room) than buying books or CDs has something to do with it. Of course, I realize they can still lose my reservation even though I talked to a very nice reservation person, but somehow its still different....
