Have not posted in a long time, even for me.

It has been a crazy few months. In late July,
my Mom slipped on a wet floor at her home and
and broke her hip. I got a very scary phone
call from the police in her town saying that
she had fallen and called 911. She was 80 at
the time (now she's 81) so this was very
traumatic stuff.

As bad as it was, she was lucky. She cracked
the bone but did not require a hip replacement.
The hip was repaired with a metal plate and what
the doctor told me were essentially two wood
screws. She spent 5 days the the hospital
and two weeks in a rehab center.

The rehab center was very good, but also
a very scary place. It was also a "long
term care" facility for people with
Alzheimer's, etc. who are never going
to get better. It was a stark contrast
watching my Mom who was thankfully getting
better every day, and seeing the long term
residents at the center, who would never get
better, and never go home.

My Mom is home now and doing well, she is
driving again, and only needs a little help
with laundry and house cleaning.

I had to make some mods to the house
(railings, better bed), and these have
worked out well.

She had a very good orthopedic surgeon.

One thing he did really impressed me:

When she asked him when she could stop
using the walker and start using a cane,
he said that the physical therapist would
be a better judge since she saw my Mom
several times a week, and he only saw her
once a month or so. I was impressed that
he deferred to the therapist.

At any rate, things are slowly returning to
normal.
