Ack.

Sometime over the last few years, I shopped at Marhsalls and paid with credit card. Sadly, Marshalls is owned by TJ Max which had the security breach on credit cards. Although I do not appear to have had a problem, my credit card company (Citi Cards), issued me a new credit card with a new number as a precaution. This is nice pro-active security, it makes me happy with Citi.

However, the credit card in question is the one I use for automatic billing of a wide assortment of monthly bills. So today, I get to spend time fixing them all to point at the new credit card number. Have already spent several hours on this, and it will end up taking better part of a day when all is done.

So far Verizon was the worst, by far. I had to hunt around the website for quite a while to find the place to update your credit card number. When I did, it then sent me an email saying my "new" autobilling would take effect in about 60 days. All I wanted to do was change a credit card number on a service I already get. Spent about 20 minutes calling around trying to get to the proper department and not talk to a voice recognition system that does not work (it kept telling me my account number was invalid). Finally talked to the right department, and the answer is that they cannot simply switch my credit card number. I need to re-enroll in autopayment and pay at least one or two bills manually.

You can say what you want about jocks, but my Gym (Boston Sports Club), was the easiest. There was an update billing pick directly off of the login page, that let me simply change the card number without upsetting anything else and then sent me a confirmation email. All done in a few seconds.

Will be sticking pins in my TJ Max voodoo doll for a long time.
