Between the Holidays
Dec. 29th, 2003 05:39 pmWorked in the city today (Cambridge, Central Square area) and it was surprising how few people were out and and how quiet it was. Its a city and there are always people, but much, much less than usual. The combination of holiday vacations and the college students being largely gone is striking. I even got a seat on the Green Line to go home during the start of the evening rush, and that rarely happens. What made it even nicer was the pleasant weather; it feels like spring not winter. I took a walk to pick up lunch and did not even need a coat. Very pleasant in this little lull: before and up to Christmas it is very busy, and next week the college students and vacationers will return, but now it is so quiet and pleasant. Its even a pleasant time to work: very few interruptions, emails, etc.
People often chat about what their favorite holiday is. I think I like this little lull and quiet more than the holidays.
